Best Piano Books

Best Books for Young Beginner piano students

This is my favorite songbook for pre-readers - my students love to learn these fun, familiar songs by ear.  Includes songs like: Hot Cross Buns, Chatter with the Angels, Twinkle Twinkle, Love Somebody.

I like this book because the notes are large and it has plenty of repetition for young beginners to practice reading their first notes. I use this after we have learned several songs by ear.

Best Books for Teen Beginner Piano Students

This is a great overall method to get students reading music and understanding basic music theory right away.  It is simple, clear and moves at a good pace for weekly assignments.

Chord Crash is a fun book to get students immediately PLAYING the piano, and accessing more of the piano with arpeggios and patterns - more than they ever could with beginner sightreading skills.  It also lets students create their own progressions and have fun learning concepts through  a comic book style dialogue.  This one is always a hit in my studio.

Students love playing these fun rock duets.  They are easy to read and use similar notes with varying rhythms.  Really cool accompaniment parts, interesting to listen to.

Beautiful, simple pieces with warm-ups before each piece.  Play something lovely and minimalistic.
